TL;DR: We are introducing a new pricing structure for Organizations. We have already been in touch privately with all impacted Organizations. The new model replaces percentage-based fees with a usage-based approach. Organizations choose a plan that matches their activity levels and needs. Hosted Collectives remain unchanged and are not subject to platform fees.

In late 2024, the stewardship of the Open Collective platform transitioned to OFi Consortium (OFiCo), a nonprofit 501(c)(6) created by the largest Fiscal Hosts on the platform, Open Source Collective,

In late 2025, during the transition of Independent Collectives to Organizations, we began sharing upcoming pricing changes. Now, well into 2026, it’s time to officially roll out our updated pricing structure for Organizations, designed together with our members.

What is changing

The previous pricing model relied on percentage-based platform fees (15% of Host Fees). The new model moves away from that approach and toward pricing based on actual platform usage.

We think this is a better foundation. It means Organizations are not penalized for growing financially or for responsibly managing larger amounts of money. Instead, pricing is based on the operational load placed on the platform, making it more predictable and more closely aligned with real usage.

We recognize that, in some cases, Organizations that were not charging any Host Fees to their Collectives are now being asked to contribute. This is also part of the intended shift: moving to a more equitable model, where the cost of sustaining the platform is more broadly shared across the Organizations that rely on it, rather than falling mainly on those charging Host Fees.

Who this affects

This change applies to all Organizations that manage money on the Open Collective platform.

Hosted Collectives themselves remain unchanged. They are not charged platform fees. Host fees may still apply depending on the hosting agreement.

How pricing works for Organizations

Organization pricing is based on two factors: the features you need and the volume of activity you manage on the platform.

Each plan has two parts. You first choose a tier (Discover, Basic, or Pro) based on the features you need. Then you pick a package within that tier, which includes the amount of monthly activity you need. That activity is measured with two signals: how many active Collectives or Funds you manage during the month, and how many Expenses are paid through the platform in the same period.

“Active” has a very practical meaning: at least one financial transaction in the month. If a Collective or Fund has no financial activity, it is not classified as active.

In practice, most Organizations start with the smallest package in their tier, then adjust if their activity changes. If you grow, you can move to a larger package without changing tier. If you need additional features, you can move up a tier. If you occasionally go over what your package includes, the extra usage is billed for that month, and you can upgrade if it becomes the norm.

As a quick reference point, Discover starts at $0/month, Basic starts at $60/month, and Pro starts at $320/month. The free Discover tier covers Organizations with up to 1 active Collective and 10 paid Expenses per month.

  • Discover is for small Organizations evaluating the platform or teams that want the essentials and a clear, free starting point. It includes Stripe for receiving contributions. It does not include payout processor integrations, so payments would need to be handled manually.
  • Basic is for Organizations scaling up that want smoother day-to-day operations. It includes payout processor integrations (Wise and PayPal) and chart of accounts.
  • Pro is for larger or more rigorous Organizations with stricter compliance needs. It includes features like legal documents (US tax forms), bank account synchronization, agreements, and support for managed funds and grants.

Timeline

We contacted impacted Organizations in July 2025 and followed up in March 2026 to ensure everyone was reached.

Here is the rollout timeline:

  • March 2026: New pricing is rolled out for new Organizations joining the platform.
  • April 2026: Existing Organizations are automatically updated to the most suitable or agreed plan on the new pricing. Organizations with up to 1 active Collective and 10 paid Expenses a month are on a free tier.
  • May 2026: First invoices are issued to existing Organizations for the April billing period.

A shared path forward

Our mission remains the same: to make it easy to raise, manage, and disburse money with transparency. These changes bring more clarity, fairness, and sustainability to that mission.

We are grateful to every Organization, Host, and Collective that continues to support this community-owned infrastructure.
